Hands Across Canberra partners with IKEA Canberra to spark joy
Published on 02 February 2021
During the Christmas period, IKEA ran an appeal with the Majura Park store to provide disadvantaged children with gifts purchased by staff and customers over the November – December 2020 period. IKEA chose Hands Across Canberra, because they knew of the depth in which these gifts would be received. HAC worked to ensure gifts were disseminated to several local charities, such as: St John’s Care, Canberra City Care, Uniting Care Kippax, Yeddung Mura and St Vincent de Paul – Kambah conference. The appeal was very successful in collecting hundreds of toys for kids of many different ages. The gifts put many smiles on beautiful little faces at Christmas time.
St Johns Care – ‘Thanks to support from Ikea and other generous community donors, we were able to support 548 families and provide gifts for 1644 children through our present room this year’.
Canberra City Care – ‘Our Christmas hamper recipients were so grateful to be able to choose gifts that were suitable for their children no matter their age. We’re so thankful for businesses like IKEA who encourage generosity and care for our local community through the donation of toys and other gifts’.
The appeal was well received in the community! We hope to continue this partnership throughout the years.
