Palliative Care ACT's mission is to influence, foster and promote the delivery of quality care at end of life for all and to offer compassion and support to those with a life limiting illness, their carers and families.

Palliative Care ACT provides services at its wonderful respite centre, Leo’s Place, and through its volunteer programs in Clare Holland House, in home-based care and residential aged care.

Leo’s Place is a home away from home providing:

  • Overnight Respite for people with a life-limiting illness and their carers
  • Day Respite providing support and care for clients to allow carers to have a short break
  • Carer Support: access to advice, information, and self-care activities

Our home-based volunteers provide support and companionship to people with life-threatening illnesses in their homes. This can also support the carer and relieve the stress on the family, allowing time and space to do what is important and to nurture the relationships within the family.

Clare Holland House is an inpatient palliative care unit where a specially trained team cares for people with a life-threatening illness. Our volunteers at Clare Holland House provide a broad range of services including:

  • providing companionship and comfort to clients through walking, reading or playing music
  • supporting families/carers;
  • assisting with transport for appointments and outings
  • assisting at mealtimes
