Charities handed major boost with Canberra Day Appeal raising $850,000
Published on 03 April 2023
Hands Across Canberra has announced that this year’s Canberra Day Appeal raised more than $850,000 for local causes.
Many more charities and organisations were involved this year, and the funds will support more than 360 charities and community groups in Hands Across Canberra’s network.
“We had a record-breaking 114 charities and community organisations signed up to participate, 52 per cent more than we had last year,” Hands Across Canberra CEO Peter Gordon said.
“The significant increase reflects the pressure on charities as the number of people needing assistance rapidly grows, while the resources to deliver services may not be.
“We sincerely thank everyone who contributed to the 2023 appeal. The impact of these funds will be felt immediately by our local charities and community organisations, and we couldn’t be prouder of our city’s generosity and caring nature.”
