The ACTVBA advocates for the health, well-being and education of Canberra's volunteer rural firefighters.
Since 1984, the ACT Volunteer Brigades Association (the ACT VBA) has encouraged and supported our volunteer bushfire fighters as they work tirelessly for our communities without expectation of reward or recognition. Our volunteer firefighters protect our communities and keep our communities safe, not only locally, but across Australia, and internationally in places such as Canada and the USA or wherever else our firefighters are needed. Our volunteer firefighters are professional bushfire fighters drawn from a range of different occupations including policing, the law, paramedicine, health care, childcare, teaching, nursing, project management, building and construction, politics, and hospitality to name a few. Together our firefighters have centuries of experience combined with exceptional training, education, and experience working for the local, interstate and international communities through the ACT Rural Fire Service, and alongside other services to provide emergency support, but most particularly through fighting bush, grass, forest and village fires as well as providing community education.
