Rise Above - Capital Region Cancer Relief, has provided financial assistance and support to local cancer patients since 1986. We assist patients of all ages and any cancer type.

Established in 1986, Rise Above is an independent local charity that relies almost entirely on the generosity of the Canberra community and local businesses to support people facing cancer. We are a small organisation with four dedicated office staff and a team of 50 incredible volunteers. Our volunteers help coordinate community fundraisers, strengthen relationships with corporate partners, and most importantly provide support to the cancer patients and families who rely on us.

We currently have 398 individuals and families registered for support and expect to require between $700,000 and $800,000 this year to meet their needs if they draw fully on our commitment. In the 2025 calendar year we provided assistance to 788 individuals and families across the region.

Rise Above provides practical, financial support to help ease the daily pressures experienced during cancer treatment. Assistance includes:

• Prescription medication and over the counter medication related to the cancer diagnosis
• Chemotherapy related costs
• Nutritional supplements prescribed by dietitians
• One off payments towards electricity, gas or water bills
• Weekly food and fuel vouchers
• Support for initial costs of sperm or egg freezing
• Assistance with costs associated with the University of Canberra Cancer Wellness Centre

Our mission is to ensure that no local person faces cancer alone. Every donation directly supports patients and families in the Canberra and Queanbeyan Palerang region at a time when they need it most.
