Hands Across Canberra celebrates all that’s good about a generous community | Riotact (the-riotact.com)

“We’ve seen the community become more aware that Canberra has a dark side. It’s a beautiful city, but if we lift the carpet, there’s so much we still hide,” says Di Kargas Bray, outgoing chair of Hands Across Canberra (HAC).

Hands Across Canberra proudly launched the inaugural round of the Canberra Philanthropy Awards in July 2022.

The Awards have been established as a way for us to celebrate the generosity that exists in our community. It is a chance to celebrate acts of kindness, initiative and leadership which have helped uplift or support various demographics of Canberra.

Inaugural recipients were :

John Hindmarsh AM – For being a strong supporter of HAC since inception with sage advice and generous support as a director. And for being a gemerous member of the Canberra community, having supported countless worthy causes.

Jo Farrell – For being a name that is synonymous with the theme of empowerment in Canberra. Jo is the general manager of Kane Constructions and has played a monumental role in the successful building of the Strathnairn Charity House. Jo also serves on the board of YWCA and has been a long-standing champion of women’s rights and providing opportunities to empower and upskill Canberra women.
