Radio 1RPH is a community radio broadcaster servicing Canberra and the surrounding region, operating as a radio reading service for people with a print disability.
What will you hear when you tune in to Radio 1RPH? Our friendly volunteers bring you:
– live readings of daily newspapers
– articles from magazines and other special-interest sources
– book readings twice daily
– interviews
– community notices and coverage of local events
Radio 1RPH has been on the air since 1981 and broadcasts 24/7/365 to Canberra on 1125AM and DAB+, Wagga Wagga on 89.5FM and Junee on 99.5FM, as well as via our website at radio1rph.org.au and the Community Radio Plus app.
As a radio reading service we subscribe to many publications in hard copy form and digital form so that our listeners have access to a wide range of information from multiple sources. Funds will be used to continue these subscriptions. Funds are also needed to support our volunteers in producing 112 hours of live radio each week. This includes contributing to a clean and safe work environment, providing entrance fees and tickets to events that we report from, giving vehicle allowances for volunteer travel to events that we report from and enabling our volunteers to look professional, united and identifiable when representing our station at community events, for example, with t-shirts and name tags.
in addition to its core in-studio reading programming, Radio 1RPH will continue increasing involvement in the community, covering events and insight into community organisations in the area and the services they provide.
This is part of our ongoing aim to increase our engagement with individuals and organisations alike and foster a continuous and communicative relationship with the community, to help strengthen Canberra as an accessible city.
Our service addresses loneliness and social isolation and offers inclusion for people affected by the digital divide.
