About the Collaboration
Canberra Foundations Collaborative is a partnership between local community foundations: Hands Across Canberra (administering the Chief Minister’s Charitable Fund), the Snow Foundation, and the John James Foundation. With regular contributions from the Aspen Foundation and Aspen Medical, the Canberra Foundations Collaborative is dedicated to driving positive change in the community. It regularly collaborates, shares knowledge and co-funds.
Since 2022, the foundations have collaborated on an annual major grant round in Autumn, to streamline the application process for organisations and make funding more accessible.
The collaborative has conducted three successful grant rounds, distributing over $4.2 million across the community and addressing critical social issues. In addition to financial support, the Canberra Foundations Collaborative continues to build a stronger, more interconnected community sector through networking and capacity-building events.
In 2025, the Collaborative will embark on its fourth annual grant round, with Expressions of Interest opening on 4 February.
Available funding
Approximately $1,000,000 will be distributed in grants.
Most grants are expected in the $5,000-$25,000 range, with a few up to $50,000+. A limited number of multi-year grants are possible.
Organisations may apply for more than one grant/activity/project.
Unless earmarked for multi-year awards, funds should be expended within 12 months from the date of approval.
The partnering foundations regularly consult with the community sector and are guided by their identification of needs and priorities.
This grant round welcomes expressions of interest from charitable organisations and social enterprises that address systemic disadvantages for Canberra communities and nearby regions. It supports initiatives that engage socially disadvantaged or marginalised community members and strengthen charities to support them.
Whilst all applications are welcome as they represent community need, each foundation has its own focus areas.
