Registration and Website Profile

Hands Across Canberra supports charities in Canberra and the nearby regions including Queanbeyan, Yass and Galong. If you are still not sure, please contact julia@handsacrosscanberra.org.au

Charities and community organisations (with DGR status) carrying out vital work to help vulnerable people living in Canberra and the surrounding regions are invited to register on our website.

Fees

HAC does not apply fees for hosting charities on our platform but donations to charities will be charged credit card provider fees and agent processing fees that will vary.

Stripe Fees:

1.7% + $0.30 for domestic cards

3.5% + $0.30 for international cards

Donations

Donations received during the month will be  distributed to charities in one lump sum at the end of the month’s or at the beginning of the next month.

Donor information details are subject to confidentiality obligations of HAC and will depend on the donor not seeking anonymity.

Donations over $2 to Hands Across Canberra and charities with DGR status are tax deductible.

Yes as we have internet payment security systems in place

Hands Across Canberra uses Foundant, a secure platform trusted by community foundations globally and in Australia. Your information is stored on an Australian server.

Yes! Direct debit details are available upon request. For phone or checque donations, please contact jodean.ritchie@handsacrosscanberra.org.au and donations@handsacrosscanberra.org.au

Yes, donors can choose to donate anonymously.

Yes, donors can tribute their donations.

To receive a breakdown of your monthly donations subject to donors not seeking anonimity, contact jodean.ritchie@handsacrosscanberra.org.au

You may thank them for their donation, but please note they haven’t opted in to receive further communication.

DGR Status

Unfortunately no but we can direct charities to legal support that can help them access this status. Some times that support will be provided pro-bono

See above re DGR status. If your social enterprise does not have DGR status then unfortunately you cannot create a profile on our website to collect donations. However you can add your name to our contact list so you can find out when grant rounds are live and about any other relevant HAC news. Please email julia@handsacrosscanberra.org.au to add your contact information.

General Information

Hands Across Canberra supports the ACT’s most vulnerable people. While many Canberrans generously donate to national and international causes, we wanted to focus on giving where we live.

Community foundations are philanthropic organisations that provide permanent financial support to local communities through endowment funds. They invest these funds to generate income and distribute grants. They are a popular way to encourage local philanthropy and extend the impact of donations.

Hands Across Canberra supports, empowers, and builds the capacity of local charities and community organisations in Canberra. We work closely with these organisations to understand their needs, provide resources and support to help them serve our community.

While the Canberra community is generous, many organisations struggle to raise ongoing financial support. Hands Across Canberra helps by providing grants, collaborative marketing and capacity building opportunities, connections with the local philanthropic community, and an online donation platform.
