International Woman’s Day 2021
Published on 04 January 2021
Every year the ACT Office for Women celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD), held on 8 March, by honouring women who have made an outstanding contribution to the lives of women and girls in the ACT.
The themes of this year’s IWD are “Women in Leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world” and “Choose to Challenge”. I’m sure we can all agree that 2020 will be remembered as a year that threw us challenges and curveballs all year!
We know that there are many amazing women working and volunteering in the Community Sector that have gone above and beyond to assist Canberran’s experiencing difficulty during this time. UN Women Australia report that women around the globe are leading organisations and institutions carrying out effective and inclusive COVID-19 responses, from the highest levels of decision-making through to frontline service delivery. Women bring different experiences, perspectives and skills to the table, and make invaluable contributions to decisions, policies and laws that work better for all. So let’s make IWD 2021 the best one yet!
To mark IWD 2021, Office for Women are requesting three things:
- We encourage you to nominate those women who have made an outstanding contribution to the lives of women and girls in the ACT for the 2021 ACT Women’s Awards. More information and nomination forms are here: https://www.communityservices.act.gov.au/women/grants_and_awards/2021-act-womens-award-nomination-guidelines. Nominations close 5:00pm Wednesday 10 February 2021
- We invite you to submit a short biography and photo of female staff or volunteers to be highlighted on the Office for Women Instagram page. Please email to email@example.com by Friday 26 Feb 2021.
- We would love to hear what you have planned to mark IWD 2021! Please let us know how your organisation is celebrating this year by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
